Energized by a well-attended Hawaii Region Convention in late May-early June, the Regional Leadership Team and club members are excited to be starting a new service year.
The first Regional Peace Project was unanimously voted to be continued in the coming year, inspired by the en- tries submitted by fifth grade students and their illustrations and interpretations of peace. The Region’s Y Service Clubs collaborate with the YMCA and selected community schools for this project. Linda Chung and Alissa Taniguchi, both members of the West Oahu Y’s Men’s Club, will be sharing the committee’s leadership.
The 2014 Regional Convention Committee, headed by Rick Lau (Central Y Service Club) and ably assisted by Ethel Takamatsu (Kalihi Y Service Club) and Brad Ishida (Kaimuki Y’s Men’s Club), has set the dates and location for 2014. The Island of Hawaii’s Kilauea Military Camp in the famous volcano area will be the venue the Convention and Regional meeting on May 30 – June 1. The Camp is famous for its rustic, quiet environment and fireplaces in each cabin.
The Hilo Y’s Men and Women Service Club has just signed an agreement with a new Brother Club in Sweden, Vasteras Y’s Men’s Club. President Bobby Stivers-Apiki recently announced the birth of this new relationship. And a hearty congratulations go out to the Hilo Club on the 75th Anniversary of their charter and to the Kaimuki Y’s Men’s Club who celebrated their 50th Anniversary in April.
“ONE MORE CLUB” has been our hope in recent years and Duke Chung, newly appointed Membership, Conservation and Extension RSD (West Oahu Y’s Men’s Club) will be continuing the efforts of past Extension RSD Walter Osakoda from the same Y’s Men’s Club, to charter a club in their community in the Leeward District of Oahu.
All Regional Service Directors; District Governors, Eddie Miwa, Metro District, and Lance Niimi, Orchid-Valley- Garden District; Stephen Wong, Regional Secretary/ Treasurer; Club Presidents and Regional Counselors are on board for an anticipated landmark year in Hawaii, serving our YMCAs and communities!
